Expletives

When I was a kid, my mom didn’t want me to use “darn” or “shoot”.  She explained that people would hear them and think I meant “damn” and “shit”.  I pretty much ignored her.
I still use “shoot” alot.  And I feel pretty safe – virtue wise - doing so.  I live in California and I’ve been in [...]

Katie’s interests can be summarized right now as

Princesses
Balls
Choo Choo Trains
Cameras
Shoes – a genetic trait that she got from Mom.

Ah, here’s our budding photographer now.  (I think she’s so cute when she tries to frame her picture.)  Can’t you just see her 18 years from now with a backpack in a train station in Europe?

 Some of [...]

Valentines

I learned something from watching Paul of Jen and Paul.  Every year, he would take their daughter, M,  to buy mom something for Christmas and her birthday.  It was Daddy’s job to help M pick out an appropriate gift and to fund said gift.  In doing so, he was teaching her about gift giving: buying [...]

Hmmmm.

I think sleep deprivation causes hallucinations. In the last couple of weeks, at about 1 pm in the afternoon, I gain the absolute conviction that my local metropolis is going to be overcome by zombies unless I consume milk chocolate. Me being  superwoman and all, I have to do my duty to save mankind. And I’m willing. I’m [...]

Part of the fun of cleaning out the back room has been coming across unfinished projects, like these bird houses.  I painted most of them, but put off buying shellac, then bought the shellac, then lost it.  So I decided to just stick these outside of the breakfast room window and let them age unto [...]

Last night, I made good use of the left-over Christmas wine (and champagne).  A little garlic;  a little butter.  Saute over a flame…wait, I don’t believe in a little garlic.  I believe in a LOT of garlic.  It doesn’t sound as artsy, but it more closely represents to truth.  OK, where was I?  Garlic, butter, white [...]

The Fight

I’ve been fighting exhaustion for a good three months now–an exhaustion so deep and so entrenched that one nap or one good night’s sleep isn’t going to take care of it.  On Tuesday night, Oliver fed at 10:00, 12:30, 2:00, 3:00, 4:30, 5:30 and 6:30.  I’m so tired in the middle of the night (and my [...]

We have entered princess hell.

Where did I go wrong?

I took my prenatal vitamins regularly.
I let her play in mud with the hose (and she LIKED it).
I’ve never purchased those VILE sparkling shoes.
I never read her THAT kind of story.
I even read her Princess Edna on a semi-regular basis, just to inoculate her against such silliness.
I’m [...]

Why People Stop With Two

I’m working on a theory as to why so many people (at least in this country) stop with two kids and I don’t think it’s as simple as financial concerns.  Vodie Baucham would suggest that it’s because we have an unwritten rule in the U.S. that two is enough [a boy for me; a girl [...]

My Night

11:00 pm Time for a snack, mom.

1:10 am  Mom, got milk? Hee hee.  Get it?  Just like the ad, get it?  Got Milk?

3:20 am  Whoo Whee, I’m cute.  Hey, mom,  you don’t look so good.

5:15 am  Now I’m really hungry. No, really.  This time I mean it.

8:00 am  Mom, you look tired.  I’m a little [...]
