I learned something from watching Paul of Jen and Paul. Every year, he would take their daughter, M, to buy mom something for Christmas and her birthday. It was Daddy’s job to help M pick out an appropriate gift and to fund said gift. In doing so, he was teaching her about gift giving: buying something within a budget, picking out something the person would want (vs. the giver), and doing it in advance of the event.
This year, the littles aren’t giving papa a gift, but they did decorate a card for him.
