A couple of weeks ago, I got to pick my mom up from the airport. I’m showing you a photo of her luggage because only sadists shows photos of a woman they love after she’s been in airports or flying for 30 hours.
She didn’t know that I was coming, though she probably suspected because I’ve done this before. Still, I love the surprise, and she loved not having to figure out transportation home. What makes the surprise possible is that she’s so independent. While she needed a way to get home, she was fully capable of taking care of that herself. That frees me up to make picking her up a gift, not an expectation or an obligation. And let’s face it, packing up two kids under three during nap time isn’t something that one does with a high level of confidence for timely pick-up.
As part of the surprise, I dressed the kids in themed outfits to match her travel locale and headed down to Tom Bradley International. Oliver’s pants have rhinos, Acacia trees, and giraffes. Kate’s dress is confused.
